School Age Child Care Programs Selected

The STEM Scale-Up Program offers Iowa K-12 high-quality STEM programs to inspire Iowa’s youth.

The Dubuque Y School-Age Child Care Programs FIRST LEGO League Explore program was selected as a 2021-2022 Scale-Up Program of the Iowa Governor’s STEM Initiative.

The STEM Scale-Up Program offers Iowa K-12 high-quality STEM programs and professional development to inspire Iowa’s youth to pursue exciting STEM careers.

FIRST LEGO League Explore is a program created by LEGO® and the nonprofit FIRST for students in grades K-4. FIRST LEGO League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children ages 4-16* through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem-solving experiences through a guided, global robotics program, helping today’s students and teachers build a better future together.

“We are so excited that FLL Explore has chosen our program to be a part of the First Lego League Team at the Dubuque Y. We are looking forward to having an inclusive environment that allows all students the opportunity to learn and build with Legos and understand more about engineering and why it is important in our community,” said Megan Fischer, Dubuque Y Coordinator of School Age Child Care. “We cannot wait to get our students involved and thinking more about ways that they can make a greater impact in our community. This program is going to really be something we hope students look forward to participating in when they come to our programs.”

This program is offered at no extra cost and will bring new and exciting experiences to ALL students that participate in Dubuque Y child care programming.
