YOUR Y YOUR WAY New Membership Structure FAQ

How does the Your Y Your Way membership plan work?
Your Y Your Way allows prospective YMCA members to build a membership that best fits the needs of their household. The new structure is based off an individual and allows them to add additional adults and youth to their Dubuque YMCA/YWCA membership for a reduced price. Senior adults and youth will continue to get YMCA memberships at a reduced rate.

Who is going to benefit from this change?
Your Y Your Way will better serve the entire community by providing a more inclusive membership structure and pricing plan.

How do you use the term 'family'?
The Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA will no longer define what the term “family” means as a form of membership category.  We will embrace data driven trends showing changing demographics to include more diverse family makeup and continue to use the term family as we have in the past.

Why wasn't I notified of this change?
The Dubuque Y mailed a letter to all members on May 24, 2021. We ask that all members keep their addresses and email updated for our files.

How will this affect my annual membership?
The annual membership will stay at its current rate until its renewal date. At that time, is when the new rate will be put into effect.

What will happen to my income based/reduced rate/financial aid/scholarship membership?
The rate will be automatically adjusted. Please contact the Front Desk at 563-556-3371 to learn more about your specific rate.

Will the Y continue to offer corporate memberships? If so, how does this plan impact those?
In an effort to keep health and wellness at the forefront of our community, our Y will continue providing corporate membership plans to area businesses.  The Your Y Your Way will enhance this effort because it is a more inclusive membership plan.

What type of verification is needed to show that additional adults live in the same household?
Driver’s license or a piece of mail.

Why is my ID required with my membership?
Facilities with child care are mandated by law to know who is entering and in their facilities at all times. Additionally, our insurance company tells us we must know who is in our building at all times in case of an emergency.

Why combine the Youth/Young Adult categories resulting in such a large Youth increase?
The YMCA has been subsidizing youth memberships by around 80%, even if the family was not in need of the subsidy. 57% is a more acceptable level of subsidy for the youth/student membership category and will result in making membership more affordable for college students. Also remember that we will never turn away a youth because of inability to pay through our annual campaigns. Please refer to our income based pricing/reduced rates.
