VICTIM SERVICES SHELTER

 

MISSION
The mission of the Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA Victim Services Shelter is to empower and advocate for all victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking, especially those seeking shelter services. We strive to create an educated community that supports and participates in securing a person’s right to a live a life free from violence.

 

WHAT TYPES OF SHELTER SERVICES ARE OFFERED?
Victim Services Shelter is an eight-room, 20-bed immediate and emergency safe shelter for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and sex trafficking, in Dubuque, IA. We are staffed 24/7 with trained victim advocates. All victims are connected to community resources by advocates and receive 1:1 case management to ensure that when they are ready to leave the shelter they are set up for success living a life free from violence.

 

WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR SHELTER SERVICES?
Anyone fleeing domestic abuse, sexual assault, and sex trafficking is eligible for assistance.

 

WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT THE SHELTER

Each year we host a fundraiser called Glimmer of Hope where 100% of the proceeds go back to ensure we are able to provide safe shelter and resources to those fleeing from domestic violence, human trafficking, and sexual assault. For more information about Glimmer 2020 please click the link below.

There are many different needs throughout the year, if you would like to make a monetary donation, please click the link below. If you would like to donate physical items, please contact Deb Gustafson, Executive Director of Childcare and Social Services, to talk further about current needs and set up a time to drop off your donations.   • 98 clients served over the past year 
  • The Victim Services Shelter provided 3,954 nights of safety to clients and their children
  • Held 832 1:1 meetings with clients
  • Staff and volunteers received and assisted 547 hotline calls
  • The average length of shelter stay was 120 days
  • The average cost per person per stay $500.00
