The Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA Union Park Day Camp has a strong emphasis on enjoying nature and being active in the outdoors. Join us this year, where memories are made and adventure is on the schedule every day! Kids will explore new ideas and develop skills they can use in all aspects of life!


CAMP LOCATION

11764 John F Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, IA 52001. Union Park Camp is situated on 96 beautiful acres off John F Kennedy Road, two miles from the JFK and Northwest Arterial intersection and one mile from the JFK and Hwy 52 intersection.

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily

7:30 AM- 8:00 AM – Drop off at Dubuque Y (bus riders)
8:00 AM- Bus departs for camp
8:00 – 8:30 AM – Drop off at camp
8:30 – 9:30 AM – End of week skit practice 
9:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Scheduled activities and Horse Camp (AM Group)
10:00 AM – Snack (provided)
12:00 – 1:00 PM – Lunch (provided)

TRADITIONAL DAY CAMP
At Y camp it is our mission to ensure that each child has an unforgettable experience. Each
session of camp is designed to accommodate children ages 6 to 14. Children will be assigned a group based on their age to ensure that all activities are appropriate for their age and skill level.

Challengers (6-7), Adventurers (8-10), Explorers (11-14)

Each session costs $159 per member*/$179 per non-member plus a one time $25 registration fee. *Must have a 1 or 2 adult household membership for member rate.

BIKE CAMP
Similar to horse camp, there will be an AM group (9am – 12pm) and a PM group (1 – 4pm) with 10 in each group. When not participating in programming specific for mountain bike camp, the groups will be participating in other Union Park Day Camp activities outlined above.

Each session costs $179 per member*/$199 per non-member plus a one time
$25 registration fee. *Must have a 1 or 2 adult household membership for member rate.

HORSE CAMP ADVENTURE TRAINING
Ages 6 – 14. Horse camp is a program offered during specific weeks of the summer and broken down into three levels. Campers will enjoy the full Y Camp experience by participating in the same schedule outlined above, while breaking away for 2.5 hours a day for Horse Camp Adventure Training. All of those joining us for horse camp must wear jeans and either old tennis shoes or boots. We also ask that all campers bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Each session costs $249 member*/$269 non-member plus a one
time $25 registration fee. *Must have a 1 or 2 adult household membership for member rate.

BEGINNER (Horse Camp)
The beginner level is for children with little or no riding experience. Campers are taught grooming, riding skills in the arena, basic horse anatomy and saddle parts. This level is crucial to the progression of horse camp.

INTERMEDIATE
The intermediate level is for children who have passed the beginner level, have had previous riding lessons and/or wrangler approval. Campers will be responsible for saddling and grooming their own horse, ring-riding skills will be reviewed and trail-riding skills will be learned. Children signing up for this level must be comfortable on and around horses.

ADVANCED
Campers signing up for this level must have passed the intermediate level and/or wrangler approval. Participants will be responsible for all aspects of caring for their horse including rounding up, feeding, grooming and saddling. Students will spend time on advanced riding skills, trail riding, and program related games.

HORSE CAMP PERFORMANCE
Parents are invited to view a demonstration of skills learned, beginning at 4:00PM on
Friday. Come to the barn area and bring a lawn chair or two. The demonstration will last
about 45 minutes – 1 hour.

CAMP INFORMATION & REGISTRATION  

NEW THIS YEAR
BIKE CAMP
This year we are thrilled to expand our camp offering to include biking through the highs and sights of Union Park and learning about bike maintenance.
BUSSING
This year we invite families to use our new FREE RTA bussing option! Each family will contract directly with RTA letting them know what week(s) their child will be attending camp. RTA will then pick up all the children going to Union Park Camp from the Dubuque Y and at the end of the day will bring the children from Union Park Camp back to the Dubuque Y. Please refer to the schedule above for times including bus pick up and drop off times.
LUNCH & ALL SNACKS NOW INCLUDED
Each year it is our goal to continue finding ways to add value to your child’s Y camp experience. This year we are excited to start providing all meals including morning snack, lunch, and afternoon snack to the kiddos who join us. If you have any food allergy concerns, we invite you to discuss further with Ben Loeffelholz, Associate Executive Director at bloeffelholz@dubuqey.org.

GROUP ACTIVITIES

Depending on age and level, group activities may include Archery | Arts & Crafts | Black Hole | Hiking | Creek Stomping | Games | Songs | Horseback Riding (weather permitting) | Low Ropes Course | Swimming | Zipline | GaGa Ball.

MEMBERSHIP RATE
Consider a Y family membership so your child can enjoy a whole year of activities at the member rate. Dubuque Community YMCA/YWCA family memberships are available on a monthly draft or annual payment plan.
The Dubuque Y now offers income-based pricing which allows individuals and families to provide documentation of income and receive an adjusted rate that fits them for the membership type they are looking for. FAQ'S

What are you doing to ensure the health and safety of my child during COVID-19? Ensuring the health and safety of the children who participate in our programs is a top priority. We will continue to provide the best quality care possible following recommendations from the CDC, Department of Public Health, and American Camp Association. More information will be communicated weekly to registered participants on precautions that are being taken.

Do I need a Family Membership to receive the member rate? Yes, please see the information above or on the camp brochure.

Is there a registration fee? Yes, there is a $25 one time fee.

Should my child bring a lunch? Yes, make sure nothing in the lunch needs to be refrigerated and please refrain from packing anything with peanuts or tree nuts.

Will you continue to sell snacks at camp? Yes, snacks will continue to be sold as they are individually packaged.

What items should I pack? Sunscreen, bug spray, closed-toe tennis shoes, water bottle, and an extra set of clothes. Your children will be busy with a variety of outdoor activities. Please remember to send them in clothes and shoes that can get dirty an wet. If we have a rainy week, children may arrive home muddy. Please leave iPads, cell phones, trading cards, and toys at home.

Where is camp located? 11764 John F Kennedy Rd., Dubuque, IA 52001.

What do the themes mean? Themes will be used for crafts and various actives during the week each. There are other activities that will remain similar as far as main activities from week to week.

What if it is very hot outside? We will limit the time in the sun as much as possible and shorten some activities on some days weather depending.

What if it rains? We will run as normal and will have board games, crafts, and other group activities.
